  • BREAST CANCER IS THE MOST COMMON CANCER AMONG WOMEN. 
  • THERE ARE MANY DIFFERENT TYPES, SUB-TYPES, GRADES AND STAGES.
  • ACCORDING TO THE AMERICAN CANCER SOCIETY, MORE THAN 265,000 NEW CASES WILL BE DIAGNOSED THIS YEAR.  
  •  THERE ARE OVER 42,000 BREAST CANCER DEATHS A YEAR.
  • OHIO RANKS 4TH IN THE NATION FOR BREAST CANCER DEATHS.
  •  AFRICAN AMERICAN WOMEN NOT ONLY DIE MORE, BUT ARE DIAGNOSED AT EARLIER AGES AS WELL AS WITH MORE BIOLOGICALLY AGGRESSIVE AND LATE-STAGE CANCERS.

REDUCE YOUR RISKS

  • GET AN ANNUAL MAMMOGRAM STARTING AT AGE 40; EARLIER IF THERE IS A FAMILY HISTORY.
  • KNOW YOUR FAMILY HISTORY.
  • HAVING DENSE BREASTS IS CONSIDERED A RISK FACTOR; TALK TO YOUR DOCTOR ABOUT ADDITIONAL SCREENING.
  • DO MONTHLY SELF BREAST EXAMS; KNOW YOUR BREASTS.
  •  IMPROVE YOUR DIET.    
  •  EXERCISE. 
  •  DON'T SMOKE.  
  •  MAINTAIN A HEALTHY WEIGHT.

  • MAMMOGRAMS SAVE LIVES BECAUSE EARLY CANCERS ARE TOO SMALL TO FEEL.
  • EARLY DETECTION IS THE BEST CURE.
  • GET SCREENED ONCE A YEAR STARTING AT AGE 40; EARLIER IF THERE IS A FAMILY HISTORY.

BOOST YOUR IMMUNE SYSTEM

  • REDUCE ADDED TOXINS. 
  • EAT ORGANIC IF POSSIBLE.
  • GET ENOUGH EXERCISE AND SLEEP.  
  • REDUCE STRESS.

  •  EAT CAROTENOIDS  SUCH AS RED, ORANGE, GREEN AND YELLOW FRUITS AND VEGETABLES. 
  •  EAT ANTI-INFLAMMATORY FOODS SUCH AS CELERY and SPINACH. 
  •  LIMIT RED MEAT AND DAIRY. 
  •  LIMIT SUGAR, FRUIT JUICES AND REFINED CARBS LIKE BAKED GOODS AND WHITE PASTA/RICE. 
  •  LIMIT FAST AND PROCESSED FOOD.  

DEBUNK THE MYTHS

  • USING ANTIPERSPIRANTS  DO NOT CAUSE BREAST CANCER.
  • WEARING UNDERWIRE BRAS DO NOT CAUSE BREAST CANCER.
  • INJURY TO THE BREAST DOES NOT CAUSE BREAST CANCER.
  • BREAST CANCER IS NOT JUST AN OLDER WOMAN'S DISEASE;  YOUNGER WOMEN AS WELL AS MEN CAN GET BREAST CANCER.
